Male pattern hair loss
Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in men. It starts with a receding hairline or thinning at the crown and progresses gradually. The sooner it is treated, the more hair is preserved.
Why does it happen?
It is hereditary and depends on how sensitive the hair follicle is to male hormones. Over the years, hair becomes finer and shorter until the follicle stops producing it.
How is it treated?
After examining the scalp, the dermatologist may prescribe topical or oral treatments to slow hair loss, combined with in-clinic therapies such as platelet-rich plasma or scalp mesotherapy. The aim is to stop progression and improve density.
When to see a dermatologist
If hair loss is sudden, patchy, or comes with itching or flaking, it is worth seeing a dermatologist: not all hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, and treatment depends on the cause.
